We set up Pen Telecom with a clear strategy to help small and medium businesses to get the most out of the telecommunications products and services on the market. It has always been our mission to identify the best services for our customers at the best prices.

For broadband which is a critical and essential business service such as electricity or water this can prove challenging.

Unfortunately, BT‘s division Openreach, whose networks are used by most broadband providers, is not very efficient at supplying a full fibre service (FTTP) to its customers. Although it is aiming to improve on this, the focus is mainly residential, with the requirements of businesses not always well served.

A new trend is emerging on the market with the fast growth of an independent fibre broadband network. Known as ‘Altnets’ the sector is four times larger than a decade ago and continues to attract significant sums of private investment. Nearly £12bn will be invested in the delivery of new full fibre connectivity by independent providers before the end of 2025. A report titled ‘Metrics for the UK Independent network sector’ published by INCA (the Independent Networks Cooperative Association) and Point Topic, shows the scale of the growth – click here to see the full report.

Pen Telecom has teamed up with a growing number of Altnets throughout the UK to offer our customers nationwide coverage. Each of the Altnets cover specific areas. These Internet Service Providers are building their own local full fibre networks and can often give full fibre where Openreach cannot.

A simple check of your postcode and address is all that is needed, and we can tell you if you can get up to 1GB fibre service. And as these networks are often underutilised and almost uncontended (meaning that only one organisation is using them, and the connection is not shared with other users), they will genuinely give ultra-fast connectivity.

If you are looking for something a bit better than what BT/Sky/Plusnet and the others (all of whom use Openreach) can offer, contact Pen Telecom and we will check what is available for you.
